On Monday, lawyers from the UN body accused Israel of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Gaza war. The UN Human Rights Council is considering a resolution condemning Israeli policy and actions in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday he agreed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement that the Gaza conflict was an "open wound" for the region.

"I said when I was going into Gaza I saw the suffering of people, including children, with all that going on and the people were being killed, their homes destroyed, it was horrible," he told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday.

Trump has, however, maintained that he does not support Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

'One in four Palestinians displaced'

The UN has identified 1.8 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as refugees and internally displaced persons, who are seeking shelter, and that nearly 3 million remain in need of humanitarian assistance.

The United States, Britain, France, China and Germany, as well as France, have already appealed for aid deliveries to Gaza.

The number of wounded in the fighting has not been released by the Israeli military, but the UN said in a statement Monday that the conflict left 3,300 people dead including 677 civilians.

According to the official, one in four Palestinians displaced by the war were women and children.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned Israeli attacks in Gaza.

"In light of today's violence, which is the deadliest since the start of hostilities in January 2016, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Secretary-General call upon all sides to stop firing at civilian targets and to stop firing on civilians," the statement read.

On Saturday, a Palestinian boy was killed and another injured while a rocket landed near an Israeli town in southern Israel.

Sydney men charged over savage perth assault

Seven men have been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on Sydney girls as a result of what police described as a vicious sex assault.

Key points: Five men, all aged 25 or under, have been charged with aggravated sexual assault

One man, aged 30, has been charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault

At least one victim is being treated for serious injuries and has been discharged

Police said they were concerned there could be more victims and they are urging anyone with information about the assault to contact them.

Police attended the Sydney property where the incident took place on August 19.

They described the incident as "the most disturbing incident they've seen", where the suspects went on a "vicious sex act" after being allegedly involved in an "abusive relationship".

One of the six men was described as being heavily built, with tattoos covering part of his body.

He was seen with a large tattoo of a bloodied woman's face on his back.

Police said he appeared to be drunk.

The men were described as carrying a black backpack and a dark coloured jacket.

The five victims are from the Central Coast region of NSW and were aged between about 16 and 19.

Four of the children, aged from five months to 12 years, suffered serious injuries, while the fifth, aged five years old, remained in hospital for several days.

The men did not appear to know anyone of interest.

They were believed to be drinking heavily.

"There was a big amount of blood on them," an officer said.

"We're really worried about their wellbeing here and we're concerned they're going to face significant trauma from the attack."

The youngest child involved, aged 11, was taken to hospital, with one of her hands and legs amputated.

Five years ago, a 16-year-old Sydney girl suffered severe injuries when two men forced their way into her bedroom at about midnight.

She was left in the bathtub for five days after the attack before paramedics arrived.

Officers said the two men involved in that case — aged 34 and 21 years old — appear to be the same people who struck again, with both men being charged with assault and sexual assault of a child.

One of the men was said to be wearing black clothes, the other a white t-shirt.
